Release Process:

Versions after 1.4

I have made a change which will mostly remove the need for the explanation below.  Going forward, the last-modified dates and times of files in the distributions will no longer be updated to reflect the release date and time.  Instead I plan to include the release version number in the files of each distribution.  You may, however, still use the changlog.txt files as indicators of where and when changes were last made.

Versions 1.4 and earlier

It's important to clarify an aspect of the release process.  During the generation of releases, the last-modified dates and times of all ASCII text files, including the changlog.txt files, are updated to reflect the release date and time.

If you compare the last-modified dates and times of the changlog.txt files listed on the download page with those in the downloaded release, please note that the dates and times for the downloaded files represent the release state, while those shown on the download page reflect the earlier, pre-release state.

I will try always to enter a date in the release announcement in the blog which reflects the date on which I make a release.
